The Truckee Meadows Fire Protection District (TMFPD) is seeking a Deputy Chief of Fire Prevention to lead its fire prevention efforts. Ideally located in Northern Nevada, a region with four seasons and over 250 days of sunshine per year, abundant recreational opportunities, natural beauty, and a low tax burden, TMFPD has much to offer a top-caliber, dynamic, and talented fire prevention professional. Governed by a five-member Board of Fire Commissioners (who also serve as Washoe County Commissioners) TMFPD provides fire suppression and Paramedic Advanced Life Support level of Emergency Medical Services to approximately 88,000 residents in unincorporated Washoe County. With a career staff of 139, a volunteer staff of 80, and a $27.5 million budget, TMFPD operates 11 career fire stations and 8 volunteer stations within the District as an all-hazards fire agency capable of responding to structure fires, wildland fires, hazardous materials incidents, and emergency medical incidents. Under the direction of the Fire Chief, the Deputy Chief of Fire Prevention leads three non-sworn staff - two Fire Prevention Specialists and an Administrative Assistant. Requires the equivalent of a Bachelor’s degree in a related field and seven years of progressively responsible experience related to community risk reduction, inspections, and investigations and three years of senior level supervisory responsibility as a Fire Marshal, Deputy Fire Marshal, or Assistant Fire Marshal within the fire prevention division of a municipal or county fire. Certification as a Fire Inspector II or equivalent AND Fire Plans Examiner as well as Fire/Arson Investigation Certification (which meets NFPA standards) are required at the time of application; receipt of ISC 100, 200, 300, and 400 are required within 24 months of appointment. The annual salary range is $140,213 to $165,776; excellent benefits including Nevada PERS are also provided.
