Fire Chief 

An exciting career awaits the next Fire Chief of the Bishop Fire Department to lead a professional, skilled, and committed fire department in an area with one of the nation’s most stunning displays of natural beauty with countless opportunities for all-season outdoor recreation. The Bishop Fire Department works under the cooperative direction and funding of the Bishop Rural Fire Protection District and the City of Bishop. The Bishop Fire Department is a volunteer run department with 31 volunteers who provide superb service to the region. The Department has 14 excellent pieces of equipment and maintains an ISO rating of 4 in the City and 5 in the District. The Department operates out of three stations and a training facility within the City’s and District’s boundaries, providing fire protection but not emergency medical services. The ideal candidate should have ten years of broad and extensive work experience in all major functions of a fire department and at least three years in a supervisorial position AND at least 60 college level units (AA preferred) with fire science as the major. Experience and tenure in a volunteer fire department is highly desirable as is a Bachelor’s degree. The annual salary is up to $115,668; excellent benefits including CalPERS retirement are also provided. The City of Bishop and the Bishop Rural Fire Protection District do not participate in Social Security.
